"Counting My Blessings: A Season of Gratitude"
As November rolls around, I find myself reflecting on everything I’m thankful for this year. It’s the perfect time to pause and appreciate the many blessings in my life.
Sharing My Story
First and foremost, I’m incredibly thankful for the opportunity to share my journey through this blog. Starting it earlier this year has been such a rewarding experience. It’s given me a platform to connect with others and put my thoughts and experiences into words. While I had hoped to post more frequently, I’ve learned to embrace my husband’s wise advice: do my best, let go of rigid schedules, and focus on the joy this brings me.
My Rock, Fernando
I can’t express enough gratitude for my husband, Fernando. He has taken on so much this year, especially since I’m no longer able to drive. From managing our finances and property to cooking, cleaning, and driving me to countless appointments, he does it all with love and patience. Navigating the challenges of my disability hasn’t been easy, but God truly knew what He was doing when He brought Fernando into my life.
Family and Friends
This year, my family and friends have stepped up in ways that leave me speechless. They’ve rearranged their lives to help me stay active, driving me to appointments and social outings. As someone who thrives on staying busy and connected, losing the independence of driving has been a tough adjustment. But through it all, I’ve realized just how blessed I am to spend this extra quality time with the people I love.
The Gift of Healing
I’m beyond grateful for the chance to work with Dr. Gates this year. My family and friends rallied to help fund the appointments, and Fernando handled the rest, allowing me to get the care I needed. Thanks to Dr. Gates, I’ve made significant progress through diet changes, vitamins, and brain exercises, and I’ve been able to come off the medications that weren’t working for me. The improvements I’ve seen so far fill me with hope and excitement for what’s ahead.
My HD Family
Finally, I’m so thankful for my Huntington’s disease (HD) family. Their encouragement and shared experiences remind me I’m never alone in this journey. A standout moment this year was being part of Amy Fedeles’ Hope Gala, where she was honored. Amy is such a beautiful sister in Christ, and celebrating her was truly a highlight of my year.
As I look back on 2024, my heart is full of gratitude. Through the challenges and triumphs, I’ve been surrounded by love, support, and opportunities to grow. Thank you for being part of this journey with me—it’s a blessing I don’t take for granted.
