Pillars of Strength: The Legacy of Beth, Stan, and Jeff
It’s hard to believe we are already into February—time is flying by! As I’ve been reflecting on what to share with you all, I realized that I want to highlight some of the incredible people in my Huntington’s Disease (HD) community who have deeply impacted my life. There are so many individuals who have left their mark on me, and I’d love to share their stories, one at a time.
I’ve already told you about my dear friend Bryan Medrano, but today, I want to share about Beth and Stan Johnson and their beautiful family. I first met them through the local HD chapter in Sacramento, CA, at an event with Bryan. If I remember correctly, it was a golf tournament, and the moment I shared my story with them, they immediately welcomed me into their lives. From that day forward, I was part of their world, attending every fundraiser they hosted—from basketball tournaments and bowling nights to gala dinners.
Beth and Stan had a son, Jeff, who was symptomatic, as was Stan himself. But despite the challenges they faced, Beth was one of the most joyful people I have ever met. She had such a strong faith, and even as a caregiver to both her husband and son, she radiated love and kindness. She was an incredible woman—strong, beautiful, and endlessly compassionate. Beth also used her creativity to make a difference, crafting stunning bracelets and necklaces to sell for HD fundraising.
Beth and Stan’s love for each other was something truly special. They were never apart, and their relationship was a beautiful example of a godly marriage built on faith and devotion. Stan, much like Beth, was a kind and funny man, known and loved by everyone in our community. I had the privilege of attending many local conventions and events with them, but one of the biggest impacts they had on me was when they secured a scholarship from the local HD chapter so that I could attend my first national convention. That experience was life-changing, and I will forever be grateful for their generosity and support.
Although Beth, Stan, and Jeff have all passed away, their memory lives on in the HD community and in my heart. Their legacy of love, strength, and dedication to helping others continues to inspire me. I feel so blessed to have known them, and I hope their story encourages you as much as they encouraged me.
Their impact will never be forgotten. 💙
